Conversely, for infrastructure domains involving cross-cutting AI projects with multiple stakeholders, the goal is system stability and team alignment. In this context, my leading signals are tied to early and frequent system integration testing aligned with our OKRs. In practice, a highly predictive signal I rely on for these complex infrastructure rollouts is the "cross-team API contract failure rate" during daily integration runs. When coordinating multiple engineering pods across model serving, data pipelines, and frontend orchestration, assuming progress based on isolated team velocity is a trap. By tracking the failure rate of inter-service dependencies during early integration testing, we gain an immediate warning signal. If this failure rate trends upward, it indicates that architectural assumptions between teams are drifting, allowing us to halt and force cross-team alignment weeks before it can derail the final product.
